Sydney’s Cambridge Hotel  is all about its location. Situated right in the heart of Surry Hills, which is a mix of residential and commercial premises, this is an ideal base to explore the beautiful area and the city of Sydney, Australia. There are so many very unique cafes and boutiques in this trendy area of Sydney.

Situated on Riley St, Sydney’s Cambridge Hotel is literally a hundred meters or so from Oxford Street, which is very convenient for bus transport around Sydney. Central Station, the main train station in Sydney is 10 minutes away on foot.  Museum Station is closer and is part of the city loop and can get you around this city easily.

Sydney’s Cambridge Hotel

When a major event like the Mardi Gras is on in Sydney, where the parade goes up Oxford St, then you are one lucky customer to be so close to all of the action by staying here at the Cambridge Hotel. We were those lucky people and the vibe in the air was tangible. You could hear people laughing and talking as they applied their makeup, got into their costumes and this was one happy little place.

Sydney’s Cambridge Hotel

Regardless of a major event like the Mardi Gras, visitors to Sydney, whether they be domestic travellers or international travelers, should stay in a central position as this just makes your life that much easier. Grabbing an Opal card will allow you to hop on and off buses if you don’t feel like walking to Circular Quay or into the CBD of Sydney, though really this hotel is in the main area, and the walk to say Hyde Park is easy, flat and very pleasant.

Check In

Easy check in with personable staff. As we arrived early, and we knew we had, it was a matter of doing the paper work, heading out to the boho chic Surry Hills and then we received a phone call to say that our room was ready an hour early. This is a great and convenient service. Parking as available at cost, under the hotel should you want to drive, and leaving your car here for the stay is a great idea.

The Rooms

The rooms are basic in décor but quite sizeable with a separate bedroom, lounge room and bathroom. They are very clean. The lounge room has a 2 seater lounge and a coffee table, a writing desk and flat screen TV. This 2 seater can actually fold out to fit 2 more people. The addition of some more paintings or some personal touches, and using the beautiful orange tones that are found in the other areas of the hotel would make it really pop.

Maybe another sitting chair would be ideal. There is a lot of room where bags can be placed without you tripping over them, unless you fold out the bed/lounge. There is a bathroom with a shower. The toiletries are by Urban Skin co. Some rooms have balconies, so ask for one when booking.

There are tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a mini bar, iron and ironing board. In essence this hotel has what you need to have a very comfortable stay at an affordable rate. No one spends much time in a room when they are in fantastic Sydney, so it serves its purpose. From the windows, you can see a view over the city.
