The Color Run comes to the village green in the Gong

I love quirky festivals and The Color Run promises to be that and a lot more. This is a fun “run” with a distinctive difference. A little like India’s Holi Festival, a variation on Thailand’s SongKran water fight festival, The Color Run aims to make your day, well … a lot more colourful …literally.

The ‘Happiest 5km on the Planet’ has arrived in Wollongong, NSW. The Color Run has hit the Gong, as we affectionately call it.

Our village green, Stuart Park will  become a very colourful green on Sunday, 5th May when The Lord Mayor welcomes The Color Run to our town. This is a good way for the community to get together and to have a bit of fun, have a break from things.  It is all about happiness, healthiness and individuality and just having a fantastic and vibrant day out.

What is The Color Run?

This is billed as the craziest, most colorful, 5 kilometres of your life. This is because participants will walk, run, stroll, saunter or amble around the 5km track starting at Stuart Park, North Wollongong.

This is a day about sharing the fun with friends and with making new friends. The day is all about vibrancy, flamboyancy and totally OTT fun and colour.

How The Color Run works?

Everyone is asked to come in white, you will not stay this way for long. So be prepared. Selfies before and after are mandatory really.

According to organisers, “We will have white clothing police inspectors located throughout the event. You will be arrested and put in The Color Run™ jail if more than 11.8% of your person is a hue other than white” . They are joking but definitely dig out your oldest white clothes, photograph yourself before and then after. You might just notice a difference.

Runners and that is said in a joking tone, will be let loose from the starting gate at intervals. It is not a running race, take your time and enjoy this very new experience.

YOU WILL get covered in colour as you run, when volunteers throw colored corn flour (safe) at you as you run through each kilometre station and at the end. You will look like a freckle (as in the lolly one’s) or a leggo set at the end..

At the Finish buy cialis johor bahru Festival, which is back at Stuart Park, North Wollongong, when you have finished your 5km of happiness, the crowd will do a colour throw every 15 minutes to welcome new runners coming in.

There will be music, dancing and a lot of laughter from what friends have told us, who ‘competed’ in Melbourne. Their advice is, do not miss this.

Need to know info

The colour powder is non toxic, but I wouldn’t be wearing anything slightly good. This is the time to drag out your daggiest white gear.

Be a little aware that you might like to put phones and cameras in a Ziploc-type bag and making sure it is closed and just step a little away from the action to get your shots.

Bring as little as you can.

Make sure you have a towel and baby wipes in your car for after. You might just be a little coloured, a little rainbow brite or  like a pack of mixed jelly beans.

We are lucky to be covering this event and are appreciative to The Color Run for this, as it always good to see positive things happening in our city and on our village green. Stay tuned for our on the spot reports via Twitter and Instagram and Facebook. Posts will be put up as soon as we are clean.

Watch out for:

The mysterious Runicorn

“The Runicorn is a magical creature who loves to follow The Color Run to all events all over the country! Try to catch a glimpse of him. He can be seen roaming the village before the run, he might then make an appearance in the start chute and if you don’t spot him here you can bet you’ll spot him near the stage during Color Throws! If you catch him, be sure to get a selfie and share it to our Facebook page
